In a non-traditional move for Saturday Night Live, it is being reported that long time cast member Jason Sudeikis will leave the show mid-season come January.
Show creator Lorne Michaels was probably adamant about having Sudeikis continue for at least half the season because he has been portraying Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney and current Vice President Joe Biden. They’ll need him for sketches at least through the major election in November. If Romney wins the election, they’ll have to find a new person to portray the President.
For months rumors said that Sudeikis would be leaving, but those talks never became official. We suspected he wouldn’t be leaving because of his important role with the presidential sketches. Ratings wise, SNL thrived during the 2008 election and they surely are banking on more big ratings over the next couple of months.
Earlier this week we learned of three new cast members joining Saturday Night Live for season 38: Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson, and Cecily Strong.
Catch the premiere this Saturday night with host Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, Ted) and musical guest Frank Ocean. Joseph Gordon-Levitt will host the September 22 episode with Mumford & Sons performing. The following week, Daniel Craig helms with Muse.
