J.J. Abrams is set to produce a sci-fi spec script called God Particle, from writer Oren Uziel, for Paramount with his Bad Robot banner.
Vulture is reporting the news, and while they insist Abrams does not plan to direct, the logline for the film sounds extremely interesting:
After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.
The report states that Paramount plans to produce the film on a micro-budget (read: under $5 million). Paramount has had luck in the past under this model, with such films as Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside making a huge profit under this model. Most recently, Chronicle made a huge gain for Fox, grossing over $100 million with a relatively small budget. That being said, the reported budget for Chronicle ranges from $12-$25 million, depending on inclusion of P&A in the figures.
Are you excited to see God Particle come to the big-screen?
