Missing baseball? Sad about the fact that MLB Opening Day 2020 came and went without a single live game? Get your baseball fix from Hypable’s ReWatchable podcast as we dive into the unjustly cancelled 2016 show Pitch!

Fun fact: ReWatchable had been consistently releasing episodes for almost seven years straight since it first launched back in 2013!

After taking some much-needed time off at the end of 2019, our now-flagship podcast is making its triumphant return by rewatching the critically-acclaimed television masterpiece, Pitch.

We had always planned to kick off baseball season and rewatch Pitch this March. We wanted to join in on the Opening Day festivities and tap into the excitement around the sport’s return.

But then the coronavirus swept across the globe, and we decided it was more important now than ever before for ReWatchable to make its comeback, if only to inject some light into the darkness.

If we couldn’t rewatch and discuss Pitch with baseball season in full swing (pun totally intended), then we would do so to ease the longing for America’s favorite pastime.

But “because it is (or should be) baseball season” isn’t our only reasoning for going back and rewatching Pitch. We’re revisiting Pitch because it’s worth discussing.

Not quite sure you remember Fox’s 2016 show Pitch? You’re not alone. Though it had quite a hell of a marketing campaign to back it up (what with all of the primetime ad slots and MLB tie-ins), the excitement and anticipation about the show quickly deflated after it premiered on September 22, 2016.

Why? Well, for most people we’ve talked to, it seems like many people very much meant to watch it but, for some reason or another, never followed through on that intention.

And so, after just 10 episodes, the final episode of Pitch aired on December 8, 2016 to almost nonexistent fanfare.

“But what is Pitch,” you may be asking?

Pitch is the dramatic and inspirational story of a young pitcher who is called up by the San Diego Padres to make her Major League debut and becomes the first woman to play Major League Baseball. It focuses on her life on and off of the field, as well as the mounting pressures and obligations she endures as the first woman in the MLB.

The series stars Kylie Bunbury (Under the Dome) as the main character Ginny Baker, Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved by the Bell), Mo McRae (Sons of Anarchy), Ali Larter (Heroes), Al Luongo (The Wonder Years), and Mark Consuelos (Riverdale, All My Children, and Kelly Ripa’s husband).

It also very much stars the city of San Diego and the MLB as real-life people, teams, and settings are crucial to giving this show as realistic a feel as possible.

On this round of ReWatchable, we’ll discuss the merits and pitfalls of the show as well as how the show was a product of its time, for better or worse. For a taste of what you can expect, you can check out our Pitch introduction episode right now!

As in previous rounds of the podcast, we’ll be watching one episode of Pitch per one episode of our podcast. Because we know most people listening will not have seen the show before, we won’t spoil anything down the line, just in case you want to follow along on a week-by-week basis!

If you plan on sending us any of your thoughts (more on that below), please keep them contained to the current episode or anything that came before.

However, unlike previous rounds, we’ll have a slightly smaller roster of voices this time around. Five hosts will rotate in and out (two super fans and three newbies who have never seen the show) with Hypable writer Danielle Zimmerman as the consistent main host of the show.

We’ll do our best to make it so that you’ll hear from two superfans and two newbies each week. Again, since not all of our hosts have watched the show before, it’s imperative that the podcast and any feedback you may provide remains spoiler-free. We want to give our newbies the purest experience we can!

If you’ve never listened to ReWatchable before, what can you expect? Inside jokes and ridiculous crack theories, a lot of laughs and deep discussion, and a group of friends who love chatting about their favorite shows. It won’t be long before you’ll be in on our in-jokes and laughing right along with us. You won’t be jumping into the middle of anything by joining us for the first time right now, we promise!

If you’d like to leave us some (spoiler-free!) feedback, please email us at ReWatchable.Podcast@gmail.com, tweet us @Re_Watchable, or join our super-fun Facebook group over at ReWatchable’s ReWinders!

We hope you’ll join all of us — Danielle, Ariana, Natalie, Brittany, and Kendra —for our rewatch of Pitch on this round of Hypable’s ReWatchable podcast!
