Sometimes sorting isn’t so black and white, so which Hybrid Hogwarts House would the Sorting Hat put you in?
We’ve seen many Harry Potter characters possess strong traits of more than one Hogwarts house. Hermione and McGonagall for instance, are both brave and incredibly intelligent, and though both were placed in Gryffindor, they were very nearly sorted into Ravenclaw. There are also instances of students being placed somewhere that seems to go entirely against what the house stands for. Lockhart was a Ravenclaw, though it’s clear intelligence (at least of the book kind) is not his strong suit, and Pettigrew was a Gryffindor despite being a coward.
In fact, there is even a term for those the Sorting Hat has difficulty placing. Hatstalls occur when the Sorting Hat takes more than five minutes to place a student in a house, because the Hat feels the person has traits equally suited to more than one house. Notable Hatstalls include McGonagall and Pettigrew, and a few almost-Hatstalls are Hermione, Neville, and the boy wizard himself, Harry Potter. Pottermore even has a Hatstall result, in which the user can choose any combination of two, three, or all four houses, upon completion of the quiz.
People are not so black and white, so even if you’re a “true” Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin, there’s probably strong traits from another house that you also possess.
Curious which dual combination you might be? Or if you already think you know, let’s see if we can guess with the quiz below!
To sweeten this test, we teamed up with CrestCrossed, who created awesome merchandise which merges pairs of Hogwarts Houses to create Hybrid Hogwarts Houses! For instance, here’s what Gryffindor and Ravenclaw look like combined:
