Elizabeth Banks (a.k.a. “Effie Trinket” in Lionsgate’s film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games) has opened up about her ardent pursuit of the role to Esquire.
Banks spoke a bit with Esquire about The Hunger Games, saying:
ESQ: What’s going into this Hunger Games? That seems to be the big thing that everybody likes to talk about now.
EB: There’s no one thing. Just read the books. [Laughs] They’re very easy to read — I read all of them in like, hours — but they’re hard to summarize, because there’s a lot going on. Like Game of Thrones.
ESQ: Did it take you a while to decide to play this role? You’ve played people who are high-strung and holding it together. You’ve played people who are very mellow and just kind of slackers. You’ve played the spectrum.
EB: No, I wanted to play this role. I asked to play this role. I wholeheartedly pursued it.
ESQ: Like I said, the spectrum.

Are you excited to hear how interested Banks was in the part before being cast? It seems that several of the top-tier castmates for the film(s) were fans before auditioning for the series. To me, this means they’ll put much more effort and heart into getting it right, as fans and for fans. Would you agree with that thought?
