HTGAWM season 6, episode 11, brought everyone back together, for better or for worse.
Things are pretty much back to normal in How to Get Away With Murder. Annalise is back and slaying her opponents, Frank and Bonnie are torn between their loyalty to Annalise and not spending life in prison, Nate’s brooding, Gabriel can’t decide whether he’s with the Keating 5 or against them, and the Keating 5 is both overly confident and completely terrified.
I didn’t expect things to be back to normal so quickly in the final six episodes, especially since we thought Annalise was going to be gone and/or dead, but I’m really glad they are.
It would really suck to end this series with everyone in separate places. Even though there’s a lot of trouble in paradise, at least everyone’s there to fight it out one last time.
The Keating 5 hasn’t been quite the same since Wes died (or didn’t?), but it’s so weird to think that Connor and Michaela are the last two standing. Asher’s death really sunk in for me in HTGAWM season 6, episode 11, and it highlighted how much they’ve both lost since the series began.
I don’t think Asher will ever be truly redeemed now, but I did appreciate that he, the Keating 5, and the viewers got a chance to say goodbye in this episode.
He went down on a really low note, but I loved that Connor acknowledged how bright a light he was in the series. RIP, ya big goof.
Something else that I wasn’t expecting from HTGAWM season 6, episode 11, was for virtually all of the loose ends from the mid-season finale to be tied up!
I was expecting them to leave us hanging on who killed Asher until the very end, but they spilled that secret faster than Oliver on shrooms.
It turns out it was both the FBI and the Castillos! We saw Agent Pollock working with Xavier earlier in the season, and we now know that she’s the lead FBI agent on Asher’s case. She’s also the murderer, so she probably has a pretty good chance of not being investigated by…herself.
Both the FBI and Xavier would benefit from Asher being dead, and law enforcement has certainly done some shady stuff in How to Get Away With Murder, but between the two, we’re betting Pollock was acting on Xavier’s orders.
Honestly, this is the perfect scenario. I’m so glad Asher wasn’t killed by one of his own. Our favorite characters need to be as united as possible going into the series finale, and having a real common enemy to rally around might be the only thing that can achieve that.
Of course, Michaela and Connor are still supposed to testify against Annalise, but if Gabriel can testify as a true witness to the murder, he might be able to get them out of their charges and the deal. And if anyone can pull that off, it’s Annalise.
I love that Annalise came back fighting. I bet I’m not the only one who screamed “yes!” at the screen when Ophelia perfectly deciphered Annalise’s baby dreams and hallucinations.
While I certainly don’t fault Ophelia for doing everything she had to do to take care of her family, it makes perfect sense that Annalise has always been trying to be the parent she never had to save herself and everyone around her from the abuse she suffered as a child.
I also really like how the fire that Ophelia set to kill Clyde came up again in the final season. I want as many of these little callbacks and easter eggs as possible as we continue through the show’s last episodes.
We also learned that Annalise was betrayed by two of the men who shared her bed in HTGAWM season 6, episode 11. Nate handed over copies of Denver’s files, and Solomon helped the FBI find Annalise.
I’m fine with Solomon doing what it took to help his daughter, but I agree with absolutely everyone that Nate needs to man up and accept his part in all of this. He may have been Annalise’s favorite punching bag in the early seasons of HTGAWM, but he’s done just as much as the rest of them now.
It was cool how How to Get Away With Murder used these betrayals as a launching point for a conversation about Annalise’s sexuality. Her mother’s reaction was perfect.
While she was obviously surprised and contentious, her love for her daughter shone through in the end. Both Ophelia and Annalise realized something about Annalise’s sexuality through their dialog. Annalise just likes ladies!
I could not be more here for the way this foreshadowed a potential future between Annalise and Tegan. Tegan was such a superstar in HTGAWM season 6, episode 11, and she was there for Annalise every step of the way.
Even before Annalise started screening Robert’s calls, I was assuming that he probably wouldn’t stick around past the whole “fleeing the country” thing. The path is clear for Tegan to move on in. 3am phone calls, anyone?!
Annalise and company definitely have an uphill battle ahead of them in the final four episodes of HTGAWM. It’ll be fascinating to see who that “company” includes, and what they’re willing to do to get away with murder, once and for all. I can’t wait to watch along with you to find out.
