The Screen Junkies take on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a new Honest Trailer. And they’re… surprisingly kind to Marvel’s most traditional drama series.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has had to overcome a lot of hurdles. As a network TV series with long seasons, it doesn’t have the benefit of the Netflix model, or the wide reach of the big screen, and this definitely shows in terms of production and scope.
But as the Screen Junkies note in their Honest Trailer, with all those obstacles, “It’s kinda surprising that it’s even as good as it is.” And we can all agree that S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting better and better as the show goes along.
Ostensibly a Marvel and Joss Whedon creation, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is actually a Marvel Television production, helmed by Joss’ brother Jed Whedon. It doesn’t boast any big-name actors or superhero brand names, which means Skye/Daisy/Quake/Buffy the Vampire Slayer is actually the closest the show gets to a superhero.
Marvel isn’t even able to swing any of the major superheroes from its movieverse, which means characters like Thor, Captain America and Iron Man are only ever mentioned and never seen.

As for the actual characters on the show, there’s Melinda May, a Black Widow-adjacent character, and of course Phil Coulson, the not-Director-Fury ringleader of the gang. Add to that the small fact that Captain America: The Winter Soldier literally blew up the series’ premise, and we’d say they’re doing pretty great with what they’ve got. And “hey, it’s getting better,” right?
Fans should always take the Screen Junkies’ good-humored mockery with a grain of salt, and we think they hit the nail on the head here with some of the show’s issues, without going overboard into negative territory.
Fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might also want to check out Interns of F.I.E.L.D., Screen Junkies’ first original scripted web series. As the title indicates it’s a play on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but definitely more light-hearted.
