If you don’t want Richard Linklater’s masterpiece Boyhood ruined for you, do not click on this post.
One of the year’s most talked-about films (…we say, two days before the release of Fifty Shades of Grey), Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, is truly a masterpiece.
The Oscar-nominated indie movie was filmed over the course of 12 years, and shows main character Mason (Ellar Coltrane) grow up before our eyes.
Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke have rightfully been praised for their performances in this one-of-a-kind coming of age story, and the buzz and award wins and nominations are absolutely deserved.

On the other hand, Boyhood might be described as, “the Harry Potter franchise, but without a plot… or magic… or fun.”
At least that’s the Screen Junkies’ sardonic approach to the film. Having an Honest Trailer for your movie is a dubious honor, but an honor none the less – and Boyhood‘s musical roast is undeniably hilarious:
“He just kinda walks around and never really does anything else,” the trailer guy sings.
“It’s a beautiful film, but honestly, if you took the same script and shot it over a few months it would suck.”
In the end, it’s basically 12 Years a Boy – but it’s still pretty great, right guys? Guys?
