Just in time for the Holiday shopping season, the Pottermore Shop has launched a gifting feature so you can buy your loved ones digital copies of the Harry Potter books and present them as gifts.
“Choose the gift you’d like to treat someone to,” Pottermore explains, “Then select exactly when you want them to receive it. Or if they’re the impatient sort, they can have their story straight away. They will even be able to download their gift up to eight times to different devices.”
To us, we think a better gift would be to receive physical copies. Nothing’s as nice as holding one of the real books in your hands – especially when receiving it as a gift. Nonetheless, the option is available for those who swear by eBook. Learn more here.
Just earlier this week the Pottermore Shop launched the eBook version of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. All proceeds from the purchase of the book, as explained by author J.K. Rowling in a video announcement, will go to The Lumos Foundation.
In related news, Pottermore announced yesterday changes to the inner works of the House Points system to better detect cheaters. “With the start of the next Pottermore House Cup this week we are stepping up our efforts to ensure the fairness of the Pottermore House Cup for all,” they write on the official Insider blog. “We have measures in place to prevent or detect unusual house point scoring, and will deduct house points where strong evidence of unfair play is found. ”
“For example, we’ve addressed cases with questionable activity, such as a user account that seemingly completed 1,560 duels in less than 6 hours, a spell cast every 14 seconds without pause, winning every one! Another user account had won two duels a minute for 24 hours without rest, house points were also deducted from that account.”
The winner of the second annual House Cup was announced earlier this week. The winners only received a downloadable version of their House Cup award – a far cry in awesomeness from the first House Cup winner’s prize which was early access to Chamber of Secrets.
