Most of the Hamilton-obsessed won’t get to see Lin-Manuel Miranda performing live on stage (he leaves the show next month), but here’s some good news: They’re finally filming Hamilton!
Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda revealed on Twitter Thursday morning that they’ll be professionally filming two of the shows before he leaves on July 9. The shoots will take place “with the original cast this month before they start exiting, as well as shooting offstage cameos,” according to USA Today. This means that they’ll eventually release Hamilton in a theater or on DVD, Blu-ray, etc.
The announcement came as Miranda confirmed reports of his departure:
1)So far @USATODAY is the only one not burying the lede:

Miranda has previously said that a movie version of Hamilton is still decades away, but all fans really want is to see the stage version in their local theater or in the comfort of their own home. If they’re filming it now, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it released within the next couple of years. For now, it’ll sit in that Gringotts vault. Anyone know a Goblin?
