Hailee Steinfeld is heading to Apple Music for a new series where she’ll play one of history’s most famous female scribes.
PopSugar reports that Pitch Perfect 3 star Hailee Steinfeld has officially signed on to play Emily Dickinson in a new comedy series focused on delving into the life of the famed poet.
The new series, titled Dickinson is being billed as a comedy but with a bit of a modern twist.
Though the coming-of-age series will be set in the 1800s, it’ll “feature a modern sensibility and tone,” and center around the writer’s determination to ensure her voice is heard.
The show is also set to explore topics such as constraints of society, gender and family all through the eyes of Emily, who with her imaginative point of view, doesn’t quite fit into the status quo.
The series marks a bit of a first for Steinfeld, who’s been making waves in the industry both for her acting chops, and for her solo singing career.
Though the young star has been seen on the big screen in films like The Edge of Seventeen, True Grit, and the incredibly popular Pitch Perfect franchise, Apple’s Dickinson will mark Seinfeld’s first television role as a series regular.
Executive produced and directed by Pineapple Express helmer David Gordon Green, Dickinson is being written by The Affair and The Newsroom alumn Alena Smith.
Though the new comedy series has been given a straight-to-series order, there’s no word yet on when we can expect it to premiere over at Apple.
