Disney will release its first cassette tape since 2003 when they release Guardians of the Galaxy’s soundtrack on the dated music format.
Guardians of the Galaxy is 2014’s highest grossing film in the U.S., with over $300 million at the box office, but its soundtrack has been just as popular.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol.1” soundtrack will be released on cassette November 17. It’s been released on nearly all other formats previously, including vinyl LP, but now fans can own the popular mix on cassette (assuming you have a cassette player).
The cassette has played a special part in the film’s promotion, as Chris Pratt’s character Star-Lord danced around in the film with his walkman in hand and his dated headphones blasting some of the best tunes from the film.
The mixtape was given to him by his mother as she passed away, and it was clearly something that was dear to him. Groot also got a chance to listen to it during the film as well.
The limited edition cassette will be released in a “community of independent retailers associated with Record Store Day,” until the end of 2014. If you don’t have a cassette player, don’t worry, as each cassette will include a digital download of the album as well.
Will you be picking up Guardians of the Galaxy’s soundtrack on cassette so you can jam out like Star-Lord? Look for the collector’s item to hit store shelves November 17, a few weeks prior to the film’s December 9 DVD/Blu-ray release.
