Cristina left Grey + Sloan Memorial Hospital for the last time tonight on the Grey’s Anatomy season 10 finale. Read our recap to find out what happened and discuss the events with other fans.
Here are the highlights from Grey’s Anatomy season 10 finale, “Fear (of the Unknown)”:
Cristina rushes out of Owen’s trailer in the morning, late for work and with a million things to do before she leaves for Zurich (which she’s apparently been putting off).
Bailey is annoyed when Jackson tells her the foundation is shutting down her genome project. Jackson was right to dread breaking the news because she goes full out Bailey on his behind. So Bailey goes after Weber for not backing up her research he doesn’t deny it. But he does surprise her by saying that they want her to fill the empty seat on the board.
When what appears to be an act of terrorism occurs at a Seattle Mall, the hospital jumps into action getting ready for incoming trauma. Homeland security arrives and Owen has April help them find who they’re looking for. Worried, Owen calls Cristina (who had an errand at the mall) but she doesn’t answer her phone!
As the hospital is in chaos from all of the victims, Owen searches for Cristina. Alex hasn’t seen her either and tells Owen not to tell Meredith. Thankfully, Cristina shows up when Alex is working on a child whose heart has stopped. She tells Alex that she never made it to the mall.
Meredith is surprised to see Cristina at the hospital. Cristina tells her that she can’t leave so Meredith tells her the news that they’re moving to D.C. and they have an awkward side hug.
It’s a good thing Cristina did show up at the hospital because UNOS found a match for her transplant patient. Even though they’re overrun with victims from the attack she has them send the donor heart there. The new Head of Cardio (Maggie), is less than pleased to learn that Cristina is planning on doing the transplant.
As it turns out the explosion at the mall wasn’t a terrorist attack. It was actually a gas explosion and the burns on the victims arms are from a chemical at the dry cleaner at the mall. Although it’s good news, they still have plenty of people in critical condition.
Meredith tells Cristina the news that the explosion at the mall wasn’t an attack. Cristina still evades answering when she’s going to leave for the airport and keeps coming up with excuses to stay. Cristina tells Meredith that nothing feels finished. She’s not ready to leave Owen, Meredith, or Alex yet. So being each other’s person, Meredith give Cristina a pep talk and helps her to leave.
Before Cristina can leave the hospital, Shane stops her and asks to join her in Zurich. Without any hesitation she agrees to continue teaching him there. After saying her goodbyes to Weber and Bailey she runs off to find Owen. But he’s in surgery so she can only wave to him from the gallery (it’s actually quite a tear jerker).
When the donor heart arrives just as Cristina is leaving she tries to go back. But Meredith won’t let her and throws the bags in the cab. Cristina hesitates again and Meredith says, “What do you need, an I love you or something? I love you.” They smile at each other and Cristina waves as the cab pulls away. Only then does Meredith let herself get teary eyed.
As Meredith is talking to Amelia about the move she’s suddenly grabbed by Cristina. Cristina pulls Meredith into an on call room and says they have to finish it by dancing it out. She also makes Meredith promise to take care of Owen, Alex, and not to do anything crazy. Cristina tells Meredith, “Don’t be a hero. You’re my person, I need you alive. You make me brave.” And they dance it out one last time.
Cristina offers one last piece of advice to her friend – don’t let what Derek wants eclipse what Meredith needs. Later, Meredith tells Derek that she can’t move. They finally hash out their problems and Meredith calls Derek out for taking the job at D.C. when he said he’d take a step back. She doesn’t want to be in his shadow like her father was in her mother’s shadow. Meredith puts her foot down that she’s not leaving Seattle and Derek isn’t happy about it.
At home, Alex finds that Cristina has left him her shares of the hospital. He’s not sure if she can just hand off her seat on the board but it looks like that’s what she did.
There’s a bit of a shocker at the end when Maggie tells Weber that she was adopted. She says that her birth mother was Elis Grey. We’re pretty sure we know who the father is.
What did you think of Cristina’s farewell on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
