There’s more trouble for DeLuca as he butts heads with Alex again on Grey’s Anatomy 15×18 as Jack and Maya deal with a threatening situation on a stuck train on Station 19 2×10!
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ 15×18 ‘Add It Up’:
Grey’s Anatomy 15×18 is all about setting the mood, as Maggie starts a new study on the effects of mood rooms on patient. This has a lot of the doctors testing out her different rooms, while some others could probably stand to try it out, too.
Meredith and DeLuca have a whole weird dynamic going on now and it’s not pleasant to watch. Trying to be supportive, she asks him if he’s heard from his dad since he left, but then things get all awkward.
Alex asks her about DeLuca when they talk and Meredith says she’s trying to give him time since he doesn’t seem to want her input. He’s working on a case with DeLuca, but then things get weird again when Alex apologizes to him for the surgery getting postponed.
It makes DeLuca think Alex is just trying to be nice to him because of Meredith and that upsets him. Instead of correcting him, Alex just complains to Meredith that her boyfriend is a jerk.
Of course, Meredith gets frustrated when she asks DeLuca to go for a cup of coffee with her but he just wants to talk to Alex instead. Alex ends up having to dismiss DeLuca from his case when he overreacts at the patient’s mom and tries to tell her to force her daughter to get the surgery.
When Alex finds DeLuca talking to the patient, he worries that he’ll have to fire him. Instead, DeLuca is actually having a nice talk with the little girl about how he used to get bullied as a kid when he first moved to the States.
It’s enough to calm her down so she’ll let them do the surgery. But Alex is still pissed off at him because of how he’s been acting. He also tells him off for treating Meredith badly.
DeLuca ends up texting Meredith to see if she’ll come over to his place that night. Meredith talks first when she gets there and tells him she’s not interested in sitting around wondering why her boyfriend is ignoring her.
He admits that he was just trying to deal with his issues on his own so he didn’t drag her down. Just like that, everything seems to be fixed between them.
Teddy starts to have weird pains while she’s eating and they just get worse the longer she waits. Casey finds Teddy in pain in one of the mood rooms and goes to get help.
Tom and Owen both show up for the Lamaze class when Owen gets a page about Teddy and leaves. He doesn’t even tell Tom what’s going and rushes to Teddy’s side.
Teddy is having contractions, so Carina has to keep an eye on her and they learn she has an insufficient cervix. Teddy has to stay tipped upside down to try to stop the contractions.
Luckily, Owen is able to make Teddy laugh with his weird voices as he talks to the baby. They seem to bond a little bit during this time and Owen is actually being supportive for once.
Just when Owen and Teddy are having a little moment, Tom barges into the room and breaks up the mood. Owen decides to leave to go get coffee, but Tom follows him to tell him off.
Tom actually tells Owen that he should back off because he’s hurt her over and over again. Even reminding him that he chose Amelia over Teddy while he only loves her. It’s actually a really good case and wake up call for Owen.
At the very end of the episode, Alex arrives home to find that Jo is already there and asleep. After he kisses her on the hair and walks away, Jo opens her eyes and is clearly awake. What is she trying to hide from him?
The episode was an interesting look into some of the dynamics of the relationships on the show. It was a major bump in the road for Meredith and DeLuca and it looked pretty rough at first. They pulled through it, though, and perhaps it was a lesson for them on how they each deal with situations like that.
I’ll be interested to see whether Owen will back off from Teddy from now on. It looked like Tom’s words about loving Teddy reached him, but I’m not convinced Owen will suddenly be a changed man and not push to have a little family.

‘Station 19’ 2×10 ‘Crazy Train’:
This episode has change running through its veins. Whether it’s Gibson and Maya working through their relationship difficulties, Sullivan showing his crew that he can loosen up, or Andy and Hughes helping a cadet learn how to persevere, this episode tells us all about how our favorite firefighters are doing as their lives shift and adjust to new normals.
Let’s start with Maya and Gibson, as they definitely had the bulk of the drama in this episode. Maya has been keeping an extra eye on Gibson, trying to suss out if he is truly ready to be back on the job. When they get assigned to Aid car for the day together, all is going swimmingly until they stumble upon a true crisis.
A subway car full of minor cuts and bruises turns into a possible outbreak when Maya deduces that one of their passengers has the bird flu, brought back from a trip to the Middle East. While the call doesn’t start all that well, what with Gibson catching on to Maya’s extra close watch on him, we get a chance to see them work together and bond in a way they never have before.
They successfully navigate the passengers trying to mutiny and break the quarantine that the CDC has requested until they can get on site and contain the virus. They then go on to talk a father away from the edge, save multiple victims from a various amount of life-threatening scenarios, and, finally, help a woman meet the man she’s been falling in love with every morning on the subway.
Along the way, Gibson has a moment where he almost lets the chaos get the better of him. BUT he manages to pull it together enough to inspire the other passengers to help their fellow man. He and Maya start assigning small tasks to all the volunteers and soon many hands make light work as they save each of the three critical patients.
A bout or two of witty banter later, and they have definitely put their differences behind them. Especially when we see them making out in the shower in the episode’s final moment. Talk about a record-skip moment.
This episode also gave us a small glimpse at Pruitt and Tanner being pretty ridiculous doing background checks on all of Pruitt’s possible buyers. I think it was just meant for comic relief and to keep them involved in the episode, but I would watch the hell out of them purely for the laughs.
While the rest of the Station 19 crew are off working on one thing or another, Montgomery has invited Warren and Miller to come help him paint his house’s interiors. He is really interested in bonding with his team now, and it shows as he tells them about his wife’s death and how it affected him.
And then, Sullivan starts dancing. He is truly grateful to have two working limbs and pretty soon he has all of the boys dance-painting right alongside him. And it’s one of the most delightful scenes this show has ever given us.
Andy and Hughes get a chance to help a cadet learn some skills that have proven invaluable to them both. Well, Andy sort of offers her services to avoid dealing with the stress of her father selling her childhood home. Herrera is nothing if not a pro at distracting herself when she wants to.
And then they listened as she told them how she came to want to be a firefighter, and they learn that they had a direct hand in her career change. Watching the firefighters run into the skyscraper fire inspired her to join the academy and become a firefighter herself.
They teach her a few tricks to reinforce her strength and become even more of a fierce competitor with the men in her class. Squeezing rice to strengthen her hands and wrists, and how she should use her specific talents to stand out from the crowd.
This episode is definitely leading to some big changes for Station 19. Even with Maya sticking around and Sullivan mellowing out, there’s definitely a few things that are teetering on the edge of major change.
We’ll just have to tune in next week to see if those changes are the permanent kind.
