Grey’s Anatomy 12×15, “I Am Not Waiting Anymore,” proved that even when you’re trying to do the right thing, you may still do the wrong thing.
Everyone was waiting to see what would happen between Jackson and April now that the truth was out in the open. The episode actually went back a bit to show that Arizona had only been able to tell Jackson that April was pregnant just before she walked in. Jackson had no time to process the news before April walked in and his gut reaction was to start yelling.
Apparently, April was about to tell Jackson herself but before they could really talk about it she gets paged to the ER. This only makes matters worse because she always seems to be walking away from Jackson when he wants to have important conversations. As she’s on her way to surgery, Arizona tries to explain that she wanted to help. I’ve never seen April so angry as the moment when she tells Arizona to go to hell.
As soon as April gets out of the difficult surgery, Jackson starts yelling at her again. Even though I can understand why he’s so upset, it doesn’t make him look good to bombard her like that. He even goes as far as to tell her that he’s done with her. Luckily, Weber steps in and talks some sense into Jackson. He tells him that even though it’s not the way Jackson wanted to have a baby, what’s important is that now he knows and he needs to step up.
Later, Owen walks in on April breaking down and crying. She explains that she didn’t tell him or anyone else because she was just trying to protect her baby, but now she feels like she’s screwing up everything. Somehow Owen manages to cheer her up and remind her that the baby is a miracle.
Just when it looks like April and Jackson might be moving toward reconciliation, things take a turn again. They both apologize for the mistakes they made, but then Jackson starts to get angry again when he realizes that April doesn’t plan on getting tested. April stands up for herself and tells Jackson that he’s no longer her husband and has no say over what she does to her body.
The conversation ends when she closes the door in his face, and it was probably for the best. They weren’t going to get anywhere with the argument and it’s not like April needs all that drama right now. If anything, Jackson should be trying to make her life easier instead of arguing with her. I’m sure they will continue to fight about this, as I don’t see either one of them budging. If any fans were hoping the baby would bring them together, they should probably do a reality check.
I hope April does forgive Arizona for what she did. Yes, it was totally wrong, but Arizona was coming from a good place. Really, April needs as many people in her corner right now and as long as Arizona can accept that it’s April’s decision to make about the baby, then she could be a lot of help.
The other big news fans were waiting on was to see what Meredith would do about her date with Will Thorpe. He came to the hospital to ask her out in person on the last episode, but it ended before she gave an answer. Well, Meredith did accept his offer for drinks, but she warned him that she might change her mind. As soon as Alex hears about this, he predicts that she will cancel. Maggie tries to stay positive, though, and doesn’t like Alex’s negativity, because she thinks Meredith needs the date.
After an emergency shave, borrowing clothes from Amelia, and getting all dolled up, Meredith does indeed cancel on Thorpe. Even though Alex called it, he knows just how to reassure Meredith. He tells her that the first person after getting over someone feels weird no matter what, so she should just get it over with. Meredith ends up calling Thorpe back, but since she’s just come out of a 17-hour surgery, he offers to drive her home instead of going out and they eat fast food out of the car.
The episode was definitely packed with drama on the Japril end, but it leveled out nicely with Meredith’s will she/won’t she storyline. I’m glad to see that she is actually jumping back on the horse and going on a date, even if it’s just in the car. Meredith will do this dating thing at her own pace and that’s fine; it’s good to see that she has people on her side to guide her along the way.
It seems highly unlikely that the relationship with Thorpe will last for the long term, but it could have a big impact on how she views dating in the future. Please don’t damage Meredith any further, Thorpe!
