Gotham 2×17, “Into the Woods,” had Gordon playing detective once again, but this time on his own case.
With Gordon on the lose, Barnes came down hard on those connected to him — especially Bullock. Even though Barnes was suspicious that Bullock might be up to something, he didn’t actually know that Gordon was hiding away in the city. Gordon had been hard at work trying to put together the clues in his case file and he knew that all of those crime scenes were connected but wasn’t sure how.
He was sure that it had be someone on the force that framed him since they had to have access to the evidence in order to get to the crowbar with his fingerprints on it. The only clue that they were missing was the recording of the tip called in about him to Internal Affairs. Luckily for Gordon, Bullock has a lady friend in IA that he was able to distract while Gordon used her keys. Exactly how many lady friends does Bullock have?
Unfortunately, the tape only revealed a disguised voice and a bad recording. So Gordon decided to take the tape to Nygma and ask for help. With the way that Nygma started acting and the information he slipped out, it didn’t take much for Gordon to become suspicious of him. When they listened to the cleaned up tape together and Gordon recognized the sound of Nygma’s clock he had enough to confront him. What Gordon didn’t expect was to be shocked by the chair he was sitting in.
I’m still a little confused as to why Gordon trusted Nygma to help him, they weren’t very close out side of work. It’s also weird that Nygma can’t seem to hold it together while Gordon is in his apartment. Did he never expect to see Gordon again? At the least he could have come up with a better way to distract Gordon than to actual reveal the truth.
Nygma tried to do the whole body dump thing again, but Gordon got away before Nygma could get him into the car. A chase ensued which revealed to Gordon that Nygma started it all because of Kristen Kringle. With a shot to the leg it’s amazing that Gordon managed to slip away and got to Selina’s hide out before he passed out.
Again this part was odd, I can understand Nygma trying to outsmart Gordon, but not out power him. If Nygma really wanted to get the job done he should have made sure Gordon was dead before trying to move him.
Bruce and Selina called Alfred who picked them all up and brought them to Wayne manor. After a patch up, Gordon started to feel better and hatched a plot with them. First they sent Selina to go to the GCPD and had her demand the reward in exchange for information on Gordon. Nygma over heard as Selina told them that Gordon came to her. Selina said that Gordon was going to see Penguin and the place where the bodies where. This made Nygma think that Penguin told Gordon where Kristen’s body was hidden.
When Nygma went to move the bodies, Gordon and the GCPD followed him. Everyone heard his confession and they took him into custody. Barnes wanted Gordon back on the force right away, but first Gordon said he needs to solve the Wayne’s murder. They know who the hitman was, but not who was behind it all.
Although it was really interesting to see how Gordon made all of the connections, I thought that it might actually take him longer. After putting together such an amazing plan to get Gordon to prison I would have thought Nygma would have been able to outsmart Gordon once again. Then again, he’s quite new at being a criminal.
Bruce made a decision of his own regarding his family’s murder. Instead of staying on the streets with Selina, Bruce agreed to return home so that Alfred will give him access to his father’s newly fixed computer. Alfred is worried that if Bruce lets Selina become involved something bad might happen to her.
Again fans see Bruce hurting Selina’s feelings. I get that he’s trying to protect her but couldn’t he have done it in a better way? Maybe help her out after all she’s done for him? Selina put a roof over his head and food in his belly when she’s on her own too. I’m sure Selina will eventually catch wind of what he’s up to but until then Bruce isn’t being a very good friend.
