The trailer for Gemini Man, Will Smith’s new action flick is here, and it has the actor facing off with his greatest foe: himself.
Will Smith has faced off with all sorts of formidable opponents in his action flicks, but in his latest movie, Gemini Man, he’s facing off against a foe unlike any other. A trailer for the movie just released, and it has Smith’s character, Henry Brogan, on the run from a younger version of himself.
Henry Brogan is an elite assassin who finds himself ruthlessly hunted by a killer who is not only highly skilled but seems to know every move he makes before he makes it. Ultimately, Brogan learns why this man knows him so well, as he realizes it is a younger genetic clone of himself.
Why is Brogan being hunted down by a younger clone of himself, and can he convince this clone to stop hunting him down? We’ll have to wait to see the movie to find out, but really, we can’t think of a better team to take down a shadowy military organization like two Will Smiths.
The film is directed by Ang Lee, the visionary director behind movies like Life of Pi and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, so you know that in addition to having heart-pounding action, this movie is going to be completely visually stunning. In addition to Smith, Gemini Man stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong.
Gemini Man certainly has a talented cast, but the crux of what will make this movie work is whether or not the CGI to make Will Smith appear younger will feel realistic enough. From the looks of the trailer, many scenes definitely seem to recapture Smith’s facial structure from his younger years, but there are some shots (especially that first scene in the trailer) that don’t look quite right and have a bit of an uncanny valley effect.
We’ll have to wait to see additional trailers from this film to see if they make young Will Smith look normal more often than not. However, if any actor has the ability to carry an action flick as the two main characters, Smith most definitely has the chops. Our interest is definitely piqued after seeing this trailer, and we’re excited to see more from Gemini Man.
Gemini Man releases in theaters everywhere on October 11.
