Publisher’s Weekly has announced this week’s new book deals. Among the new deals are New York Times bestselling author Gayle Forman and debut novelist Shannon Messenger.
Forman’s deal is for two new companion books. Just One Day probes whether two people can fall in love in a single day, and the second, Just One Year, asks whether someone can become a new person over the course of a single year. Just One Day is scheduled for spring 2013, and Just One Year for 2014.
Debut novelist Shannon Messenger has sold her three-book, middle grade series to Simon & Schuster. The first book, The Lost Cities, is expected to hit shelves in fall 2012. In Cities, a 12-year-old girl who can read minds, and is something of a social outcast, discovers the reason she has her abilities when she meets a mysterious boy. Shannon is also known for being one of the founders of Write On-con, a free online writer’s conference.
Lastly a mother-daughter trio Kelly Moore, Tucker Reed, and Larkin Reed sold their gothic YA series. In the series a teen girl, her autistic brother, and their mother, wind up in an ancient home that is full of secrets. The ghosts in the house endanger the brother and the sister is forced to save him before the course of history is changed forever. The first book is called Amber House.
