Since seasons 3 and 4 of Game of Thrones will both cover the lengthy third book of the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, A Storm of Swords, there are now rumours that the seasons will be shot at the same time.
TG Daily writes about the rumours:
As far as I can tell, the rumor originate from the fact that a few actors have already been auditioned for characters which are to appear in season 4. Specifically, Icelandic actor Guðmundur Ingi Þorvaldsson may be under consideration for the part of Mance Rayder.
After the second season, which covers the second book in the saga, A Clash of Kings, HBO will split each book into two seasons. This decision makes sense, especially considering the extreme length of A Storm of Swords (some paperback editions are divided into two volumes, too), but it could potentially have impact on how much of the (so far) five-book series will actually be televised.
Richard Plepler, co-president of HBO, has previously stated that they are committed to the series as long as George R.R. Martin keeps writing, but with two seasons per book, we are looking at 8 seasons so far – and there’ll be at least another two book. The child actors will grow up, lives and careers may change, and who knows where the network will be in eight years?
Do you think it would be a good idea to shoot seasons 3 and 4 back to back? Would it impact when the seasons were released?
