Game of Thrones season 4 will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in February – and the bonus features look pretty impressive.
Though it seems like yesterday that Game of Thrones season 4 finished airing on HBO, the network announced today that Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season will be released on Feb. 17 of next year. Once again, the season will be available for purchase in both DVD and Blu-ray formats.
The special features included on the Game of Thrones season 4 DVD and Blu-ray are as impressive as ever. In addition to two deleted scenes and audio commentaries from cast, crew, and author George R.R. Martin, several featurettes (such as “Bastards of Westeros” and “The Politics of Power: A Look Back at Season 3”) will be included as well.
Of particular interest is the 30-minute documentary titled “Behind the Battle for the Wall,” which will dive deep into the production of the bloody and brilliant battle which took up the entirety of episode 9, “The Watchers on the Wall.” The documentary will go behind the scenes with the cast and crew, and include brand-new footage of the physically and emotionally draining shoot.
“The Fallen: A Roundtable” looks like another entertaining segment. In this featurette, writer Bryan Cogman sits down with several cast members whose characters met their ends on Game of Thrones season 4. “From first learning of their deaths to shooting their final scenes,” the press release says, “this 30-minute feature will shed light on what it’s like to live – and die – in the Game of Thrones world.”
In addition to this material, the Blu-ray edition of Game of Thrones season 4 will also include the “In-Episode Guide,” providing viewers with character and story information. There will also be further “Histories and Lore,” animated segments telling over the mythology of Westeros and Essos.
The Blu-ray edition of Game of Thrones season 4 will retail for $79.00, and the DVD for $59.00. Both editions will be available for pre-order on Jan. 13, 2015.
