In the interview, Madden previews season 3, which is currently filming, saying, “There is a lot of good stuff coming, really great stuff, and there are a lot of new characters to meet and new dynamics, the characters that you already know change a lot and surprise you.”
Last year Robb Stark married new character Talisa (played by Oona Chaplin), very much against his mother Catelyn’s wishes. In the third season, Madden says, “I’ve got two women in my life now: I’ve got my mother, and I’ve got my queen. The dynamics have really changed, but it goes to interesting places.”
Martin also talks about a certain much anticipated event which occurs in the third book, A Storm of Swords – and although we don’t yet know if it will happen in season 3 or season 4 (the book is so long, they’ve split it over two years), when it does happen, Martin reflects that, “I think there should be some fallout. […] There will be love and there will be death. You can’t want any more than that.”
He also hints that when said event occurs, “I’ll hide out and they won’t find me at all. I’ll have to hide from the Internet storm as well.”
Finally, Martin has a small new bit of information about the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire saga (on which Game of Thrones is based), saying that unlike in A Feast of Crows and A Dance With Dragons, “All the characters [are in the book]. I’m going to start pulling the threads back together in this one, I hope.”
Game of Thrones returns next year, on March 31 on HBO.
