Funko and HBO have announced a new line of miniature figurines inspired by characters from Game of Thrones – and there’s a fun twist.
A new line of collectible figures was announced today by popular toy company Funko, and HBO. At about two-and-a-half inches tall, the new figures will be miniatures inspired by many fan-favorite characters from HBO’s hit fantasy series Game of Thrones. The new line will provide a pocket-sized counterpart to the established Pop! line of character figures.
Apart from their impish size, what makes these new figures unique is the way in which they will be sold. Dubbed “Mystery Mini-Figures” by Funko, each of the 15 new figurines will be packaged in a window-less “Blind Box.” The element of risk – aside from being thematically apt for the cutthroat Game of Thrones – will make the mini-figures an easily tradable collectable for fans of the series.
The new collection will include some of the most popular characters from Game of Thrones, most of whom follow their designs from season 1. Eddard, Arya, Robb, and Jon Snow will represent House Stark, while Tyrion, Jaime, and his totally legitimate nephew King Joffery will stand for House Lannister. Daenerys Targaryen and her husband Khal Drogo will keep the lands across the Narrow Sea involved, and a White Walker will make sure that the barbarous territory beyond the Wall is not forgotten.
Several animal characters will also be re-introduced as mini-figures, including the direwolves Ghost and Shaggy Dog, as well as all three of Dany’s (currently) itty-bitty dragons.
The Game of Thrones Mystery Mini-Figures will be sold for about $7.00, and will be available in stores beginning on Feb. 15. Eager fans can currently pre-order the little guys from HBO.
The new fourth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones will premiere early this spring. Indicative of the show’s popularity – in spite of game-changing events in season 3 – rumors have already begun to hint that the show will return for a fifth season.
