Credence has ‘growing role’ in ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ and beyond

New reports about “substantialJustice League reshoots have shed a little light on Ezra Miller’s role in the Fantastic Beasts sequel and beyond.

Warner Brothers is reportedly spending more than double what a studio usually does on reshoots — directed by Joss Whedon — for their upcoming DC film Justice League. Variety says Whedon is enhancing the story with “connective tissue” that was needed “to connect sequences.”

And then there’s this nugget about Fantastic Beasts 2: Since Flash actor Ezra Miller is also working with Warner Brothers on their Wizarding World sequel, the studio has been moving him back and forth between projects (though they haven’t been so lucky with other Justice League actors). Variety mentions that Miller’s Credence role is “growing”:

Miller is reprising his “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” role in the film’s sequel, which started filming earlier this summer. Sources indicate that since that is also a Warner Bros. property, scheduling has been easier. The studio has gone out of its way to make him available, but his growing role in the world of wizarding series has made it difficult for him to suit up as the Flash on the same days that other co-stars are available.

This is the first time we’re hearing concrete proof that Credence will have a prominent role in Fantastic Beasts 2. It was assumed that he’d be appearing in the sequel since a little whisp of his Obscurus flew into the sky at the end of the first film, but Variety is making it sound like he’ll be even more visible than he was in FB1.

J.K. Rowling is expected to lead us further down the Obscurus rabbit hole over the next couple of Fantastic Beasts movies. With Dumbledore coming into the fold, it’s possible we’ll be learning that the future Hogwarts Headmaster’s sister Ariana is/was an Obscurus. Meanwhile, I think Newt will want to help Credence free himself of his demons and hopefully rid himself of that Obscurus. On the flip side, it’s possible Credence will be interested in Grindelwald’s mission and possibly join the dark side.

Stay tuned! Fantastic Beasts hits theaters November 2018.
