Ezra Miller is writing a script for his Justice League character’s solo movie, The Flash.
THR is reporting that the DCEU’s current Barry Allen has been hired by Warner Brothers to write a script for The Flash solo movie with Grant Morrison, the legendary DC comics author.
This is reportedly an attempt for Miller to stay on as the lead of the movie. With all of the cast shake-ups in the DCEU right now, following the exit of both Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, the future of these characters in the DCEU is anything but certain.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were previously attached as screenwriters for The Flash, but their “light-hearted approach” to the project (coming off of WB’s success with Aquaman and early praise for Shazam!) has reportedly been in conflict with Miller’s own “darker take on the material.”
The DCEU is obviously having more success with its light-hearted material, but since Ezra Miller is clearly so interested and committed to the project he could possibly create a success leaning on the darker side of things. We just hope they keep the humor that we saw from Barry Allen in Justice League, as that was one of the highlights of the movie!
The Flash is currently expected to be released in 2021, after being pushed back several times. THR reports that Miller’s script could be submitted as early as next week, so expect more development on this news soon.
