Emma Watson attended a preview performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Wednesday, and posted a review on Facebook soon after.
After sharing several delightful pictures of herself meeting The Cursed Child cast — including new Hermione actress Noma Dumezweni — Watson then shared a pleasantly lengthy review. She also touched on the relief she felt when she met the group of people who are carrying Harry’s story forward.
Yesterday I went to see the Cursed Child. I came in with no idea what to expect and it was AMAZING. Some things about the play were, I think, possibly even more beautiful than the films. Having seen it I felt more connected to Hermione and the stories than I have since Deathly Hallows came out, which was such a gift. Meeting Noma and seeing her on stage was like meeting my older self and have her tell me everything was going to be alright, which as you can imagine was immensely comforting (and emotional)! The cast and crew welcomed me like I was family and Noma was everything I could ever hope she would be. She’s wonderful. The music is beautiful… I could go on…
Emma’s presence at The Cursed Child is certainly an important moment for “the eighth story,” given the silly controversy over Noma’s casting as well as fan skepticism over the continuation of the original series.
J.K. Rowling aside, Emma Watson is the only significant person involved with the original Harry Potter series who we know has seen the play. We’re sure Dan Radcliffe, who’s done quite a bit of theater since Deathly Hallows, will see it in the months ahead.
The Cursed Child officially opens on July 30, and the script book will hit store shelves on July 31.
