Ellen DeGeneres is set to receive a huge honor at this year’s Golden Globe awards. DeGeneres will receive the Carol Burnett Award.
Ellen DeGeneres is a well-loved comedian, actress, and host who has been making us laugh for years. And at this year’s Golden Globes, DeGeneres is set to be honored for her work on and offscreen.
So what exactly is the Carol Burnett Award? As Deadline reports, recipients earn this award for making outstanding contributions to television, both on and offscreen.
DeGeneres certainly has made major strides in television. Not only did she make history when both she and her character on her sitcom, Ellen, came out as lesbians, but she has also done a lot of amazing work by creating a welcoming talk show and working hard to help others.
For the Globes, the Carol Burnett Award is equivocal to the Cecil B. Demille Award given to individuals who have made outstanding strides for film on and offscreen. This will be the second year someone takes home the Carol Burnett Award. Last year was the first year it was given, and the recipient was, of course, Carol Burnett herself.
Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association issued a statement to Deadline that lauded Ellen DeGeneres and the strides she has made as a strong advocate for social justice in Hollywood.
“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to honor Ellen DeGeneres with the Carol Burnett Award. From her sitcoms, to stand-up, to becoming a household staple on daytime television, she is a pioneer who has captivated audiences for nearly 25 years with her undeniable charm and wit. In addition to her television success, she’s an advocate and philanthropist, lending her voice to those who don’t have one, and spreading kindness and joy through the power of her platform. We look forward to celebrating her achievements at this year’s ceremony.”
It’s certainly an exciting time for Ellen DeGeneres. In addition to this award, she recently filmed and released her first stand-up special in over a decade, Relatable, and she has four HBO Max series in the works in addition to continuing her talk show.
If you want to tune in to see DeGeneres receive this exciting award, be sure to watch the Golden Globes when they air on January 6 on NBC.
