The highly-anticipated Downton Abbey series 4 returns in September, and a teaser trailer arrives this Saturday.
To whet your appetite, a brief clip featuring Maggie Smith has been released!
In the Downton Abbey series 4 trailer preview, Smith’s character the Dowager Countess has some words of wisdom for another character. Since we can’t actually see her, we can only assume that she’s talking to Lady Mary in light of Matthew’s death. On the other hand, we suppose she could be speaking to anyone at Downton struggling with the loss. We know that the first episode of season 4 will include Matthew’s funeral.
“You have a straightforward choice before you: You must choose either death or life,” she says.
Matthew surprisingly died at the end of series 3 in a car accident moments after the birth of he and Lady Mary’s newborn baby.
We’ll be sure to share the Downton Abbey season 4 trailer with you as soon as it’s online this weekend. Since a trailer is on the horizon, we expect that at the same time we’ll finally learn the show’s premiere episode date which is rumored to be in mid-September.
If we had to guess, the show will premiere in the United Kingdom on either Sunday, September 15 or September 22. PBS has already announced that new episodes will air beginning in January in the United States.
Earlier this month we shared with you the annual Downton Abbey cast photo in which we see all of your favorites out front of their beloved home.
