We’ve been long-time fans of Doon around here, so we’re happy to report that the book series is being adapted into a television show!
Since the first book came out back in 2013, we’ve been following this series right up until Forever Doon, the latest installment.
Now, we’ve got even better news: According to USA Today, the series has been optioned for television by Dreamstreet Entertainment and Lonetree Entertainment.
Unfortunately, there isn’t too much information about the series at the moment, as the casting process has only just begun and no one is attached to the pilot just yet. The script hasn’t even been written!
Pre-production is hardly underway, so it might be some time before we have anything solid to go off of.
The Doon television series will certainly appeal to fans of Outlander, though you can expect the story to skew a little younger. It’s set in both the modern world and the olden world a Doon, much like Outlander is split between times, but our heroines are teenagers on the cusp of adulthood.
You probably won’t be getting the steamy scenes you see in the Starz show.
Once the pilot is shot, it will be shopped around to various networks. The CW and Freeform both seem like obvious fits, but it’ll depend on a lot of factors, including the quality of the pilot, the vision for the series, room in the schedule, and of course money.
Either way, we’re excited to see what a Doon television show could look like. In the meantime, check out all four books in the series if you haven’t already and fall in love with Jamie, Veronica, Duncan, and Mackenna.
