The BBC announced that Matt Smith is the latest British celebrity slated to carry the Olympic torch. Other runners have included Will.I.Am and David Beckham.
Earlier today the BBC teased Doctor Who fans with the following Tweet:

They followed up promptly at midnight (UK time) to state:
#whowillrun We can confirm that Matt Smith will start the #torchrelay in Cardiff tomorrow (Saturday)!

It is probably little surprise that Smith was selected. He is starring in the upcoming BBC production of Bert And Dickie, about the 1948 London Olympics, in which he plays the gold medal-winning British rower Bert Bushnell. In the video below, you can see Smith filming last summer.
Also, earlier today, the Doctor Who mini-episode was on an Olympic theme.
Update – For those of you who want to go down and cheer Matt along, he will be kicking off the day’s relay at 6.20am GMT from the Norwegian Church Arts Centre to the Welsh Assembly Building. If you can’t make it, the BBC will be streaming the event for those of you in Great Britain. Hypable will share any pictures or videos of Matt carrying the flame as soon as possible after the relay!
