‘Doctor Who’s’ Matt Smith says goodbye to fans in touching video

Doctor Who’s Matt Smith, who we recently learned will be leaving the show following this year’s Christmas Special, has a special video message for fans.

Coming to us from Detroit, Michigan with a buzzed head for a film shoot, Smith starts his message using just notes written on pieces of paper. Once finished with those, Smith starts talking to Whovians.

“Doctor Who land, listen, this is a message to say thank you for all your support over the past four years. To Steven Moffat, all the brilliant cast and crew who’ve made the whole journey a marvelous one. But what makes this job truly spectacular is the support from the fans – it’s truly unique. So… THANK YOU!”

Smith, unafraid to wake up Detroit residents (he had just finished a night shoot before recording this message at sun rise), screamed “thank you” a couple of times before signing off. Watch below:

With Smith now headed out, all eyes are on who will become the next Doctor. There’s no clear front runner yet, as Moffat himself has said casting is still in early days. One report indicated that Rory Kinnear could be the next Doctor, but that rumor was later denied by show runners.

To say farewell to the actor in his landmark role, we’ve been sharing our favorite Matt Smith moments from his four-season run as the Doctor. Check out our number two favorite Matt Smith moment, and look forward to our number one choice soon.
