Disney is finally cluing theme park goers in on what they can expect when the iconic Splash Mountain ride gets a revamp, and it’s bound to make fans of Princess Tiana incredibly excited.
On Monday, the Disney theme parks finally unveiled a new first look at what park goers can expect from their plans to revamp Splash Mountain and theme it after the studio’s 2009 animated feature film, The Princess and the Frog.
Plans to redesign the iconic ride at both California and Florida parks were announced just last year, but this is the first we’re hearing of what riders can expect in terms of the story. The original Splash Mountain was themed around Disney’s 1946 feature, Song of The South, which has long since been criticized for its use of racist caricatures.
Per the Disney Parks Blog, the ride story will pick up right after the final kiss in the movie. From there, riders will join Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen as they set out to plan a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration. The lovebirds will be joined by some familiar faces from the animated movie. In addition, the ride is set to feature all new original music inspired by songs of the film.
In addition to shedding some light on the new story that awaits those who take the plunge on Splash Mountain, the studio’s parks division also unveiled some new concept art for the ride’s revamp, which features Tiana and Naveen at the forefront, leading a slew of park goers down the river.
