Looks like Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Peter Pan has found its two young stars.
According to Variety, actors Ever Anderson and Alexander Molony have been cast as Wendy Darling and Peter Pan, respectively, in Disney’s forthcoming live-action adaptation of the hit animated classic.
News that Disney was gearing up to take another stab at J.M. Barrie’s classic tale of a boy who never grew up, first broke back in April of 2016.
Director David Lowery is still attached to direct the forthcoming live-action adaptation. Lowery in particular is no stranger to the genre, having previously directed and co-written the script for Disney’s 2016 live-action adaptation of Pete’s Dragon starring Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford.
Over the years, the story of Peter Pan has been adapted countless times for both the big and small screen. In fact, many will likely be all too familiar with Universal’s 2003 adaptation which starred Jeremy Sumpter in the titular role, as well as Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook.
Then of course, there’s the beloved 1991 classic, Hook, which found Robin Williams playing a grown up Peter who must return to Neverland one last time and square off against his old nemesis if he wants to ensure his children stay safe.
Warner Brothers offered up the latest big screen adaptation with 2015’s Pan, though, despite its star-studded cast, the film ended up underperforming at the box office.
Given the number of Pan adaptations already out there to choose from, it’ll be interesting to see how Disney goes about setting its own upcoming adaptation apart from the rest.
And of course, we’ll be looking forward to hearing about who else gets cast in other major roles!
Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect Peter Pan to fly into theaters. Coming up next, however, fans of Disney’s live-action adaptations can head to theaters for Mulan, which is set to premiere on March 27.
