Disney has released the first trailer for The Jungle Book live-action film adaptation. It reveals Mowgli living in a breathtaking environment with first looks at some of the original film’s favorite characters.
Disney’s first live-action Jungle Book movie trailer shows some incredibly realistic CGI of animal characters we grew up adoring. The first footage was shown to a select audience back in August during Disney’s D23 Expo, and the VFX impressed everyone for being so polished and lifelike.

The first trailer starts off with a voiceover from Scarlett Johansson (Kaa) as she talks to a young Mowgli and asks him if he’s alone in the jungle. Later she tells him to “let go of your fear now,” and we see her revealed as the Indian rock python. The animals look insanely realistic, and we imagine they’ll look even better up on the big screen.
Mowgli is seen riding on Baloo (played by Bill Murray) at one point, and despite an unrealistic situation in the wild, it looks completely realistic as the giant bear saunters up with the little boy on his back. We hear Murray voicing Baloo as he whistles “The Bare Necessities” near the end of the trailer.
This past weekend Disney released a very short look at The Jungle Book’s trailer, teasing fans with a quick shot of Mowgli and the jungle as we’ve all waited to see the live-action adaptation’s first official trailer.
Even with the short look, we could tell that the film was going to be a visual masterpiece with living creatures having achieved true photorealism. Now that we’ve seen the official trailer, it has us even more excited to see the wonderful story and amazing cast voicing animals from the animated original film.
The Jungle Book’s release date has been set for April 15, 2016. The film introduces actor Neel Sethi as the main character, Mowgli, and includes an astonishing group of actors voicing the roles of the animals.
Other cast members include Lupita Nyong’o (Raksha), Christopher Walken (King Louie), Bill Murray (Baloo), Idris Elba (Shere Khan), Ben Kingsley (Bagheera), and Giancarlo Esposito (Akela).
The Jungle Book’s official synopsis reads, “Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat.”
