Netflix’s true crime series, Narcos is back in a new country, featuring a new cartel in the new trailer for Narcos: Mexico.
The Netflix drama Narcos captivated audiences with its dramatic retelling of the true events behind the Medellín and Cali cartels in Colombia. They brought notorious drug kingpins to life like Pablo Escobar in truly engaging ways and brought to life the stories of individuals fighting for power and, conversely, peace in Colombia. In the new season of the show, however, we’re traveling to Mexico to be introduced to the Guadalajara cartel and a new drug empire.
Narcos: Mexico dropped a new trailer along with a release date, and we got a glimpse into what we can expect in the new era of the show.
This new season will not only bring us to a new country, but it will also bring us new faces and a bit of a journey back in time. While season 3 ended in the ’90s in Colombia, Narcos: Mexico will jump back in time to show the beginnings of the Guadalajara cartel in the 1980s. This jump doesn’t just mean a new country and a new cartel, but it also means we’ll be saying goodbye to Pedro Pascal’s character and the series’ leading man, DEA agent Javier Pena.
However, Narcos: Mexico is still jam-packed with talent. Diego Luna will be playing Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, aka El Padrino (the Godfather), known as the godfather of the Guadalajara cartel. Meanwhile, Michale Pena will be taking over the space left by Pascal, playing Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena, a Mexican-born American undercover agent for the DEA.
This new chapter is going to be an intense one for the show, and it will be fascinating to see the origins of one of the world’s most notorious cartels. Even better, we only have a couple of months to wait for the new season to start. Narcos: Mexico will premiere on Netflix on November 16.
