One of the more iconic directors over the last fifteen years has been Darren Aronofsky, whose films are known for their dark subject matters, Black Swan, Requiem For a Dream, The Wrestler to name a few. It will therefore come with both curiosity and excitement that Paramount Pictures and New Regency announced today that Aronofsky will direct a $150 million “biblical epic” based on the tale of Noah’s Arc entitled, Noah.
A first draft for the film has been turned in by Aronofsky and former collaborator on The Fountain, Ari Handel, although a rewrite is now underway by John Logan, whose past works include Gladiator and The Aviator.
Here’s what Aronofsky has to say on the project:
Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family’s journey. The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It’s my hope that I can present a window into Noah’s passion and perseverance for the silver screen.
