The Kingpin will return to Hell’s Kitchen in Daredevil season 3, this time in the hands of a new showrunner.
Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise the role of Wilson Fisk in Daredevil season 3, Marvel announced today. D’Onofrio earned tremendous critical acclaim for his performance in the show’s first season, and a brief appearance in season 2 left fans wanting more.
“Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk,” executive producer Jeph Loeb says.
There will be a few changes in Daredevil season 3, however. Erik Oleson will be taking over as showrunner of the cornerstone Netflix/Marvel series, replacing Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie. (Ramirez and Petrie themselves took over from Stephen DeKnight, who helmed season 1.) Oleson’s most recent work can be seen on Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle, where he served as head writer and executive producer.
“We’re very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner, Erik Oleson,” Loeb says.
Given the portentous concluding moments of The Defenders, it certainly seems that Daredevil season 3 is ripe for a fresh take on the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Further complicating matters is the fact that Wilson Fisk made his bloody intentions toward Matt Murdock and his associates terrifyingly clear in one of D’Onofrio’s final scenes in season 2.
Daredevil had better shake off the events of The Defenders, and quickly. The Kingpin’s coming back to town — and he has business on his mind.
