Looks like a new Clueless TV show could be hitting the small screen in the near future!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS Television Studios is currently in the process of developing a television series based off of writer and director Amy Heckerling’s cult classic Clueless.

This, of course, wouldn’t be the first time Cher, Dion and the rest of the gang graced the small screen. The film, which hit theaters in 1995, eventually inspired a follow-up spinoff that aired for three seasons on ABC and UPN.

Though CBS Television’s current plans for a Clueless TV show reboot would still feature the movie characters we’ve come to know and love over the years, that’s where the similarities stop.

Set in a Los Angeles high school in the present day, the reboot is being described as “Mean Girls meets Riverdale, meets a Lizzo video.”

Currently, the plan is to center the show around Cher’s bestie, Dion. As for Cher, she’s mysteriously disappeared, and it’s up to Di to figure out what happened to her while also juggling the pressures of being the new Queen Bee at school.

Behind the scenes, the new project is set to be written by Jordan Reddout and Will & Grace vet Gus Hickey. Meanwhile, Jane the Virgin alum Corinne Brinkerhoff will serve as an executive producer on the project alongside partner Tiffany Grant, plus original film producer Robert Lawrence.

As for Amy Heckerling, the writer and director of the Clueless movie is currently not involved in the project.

Interestingly, the Clueless TV show reboot isn’t the only new iteration of the hit teen comedy that’s currently in the works.

This time last year we also learned that Paramount (the studio who produced the hit movie) was also in the process of working on their own remake of the film.

Paramount’s remake is being written by Glow scribe Marquita Robinson, and executive produced by Girls Trip screenwriter Tracy Oliver.

In addition, last year also saw the off broadway debut of Clueless: The Musical, which featured a book by Heckerling herself.

With so many Clueless projects in the works, it definitely feels as though there’s a possibility audiences will begin to suffer from fatigue. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see how they all go about differentiating themselves in an effort to keep fans interested!
