The upcoming Off-Broadway production of Clueless, The Musical has found its Cher in Dove Cameron!
Earlier this summer we learned that Clueless would be the next iconic rom com to be adapted for the stage.
Following in the footsteps of Legally Blonde and Mean Girls, the iconic ’90s rom com is gearing up to premiere in New York City as part of New Group theater’s 2018-2019 season.
Now, it looks as though the upcoming stage production has found the perfect actress to fill Cher Horowitz’s fabulous designer shoes.
According to Deadline, actress Dove Cameron has officially been cast in the lead role of the upcoming Off-Broadway production.
It’s pretty perfect casting if we say so ourselves. Aside from looking the part, Cameron, who rose to fame on The Disney Channel, is no stranger to musicals.
The Liv and Maddie star plays Mal in the Kenny Ortega helmed Disney Channel Original Movie musical, Descendants. The popular franchise, which tells the story of the offspring of some of Disney’s most notorious villains, is gearing up to release the third installment of the trilogy later next year.
Disney Channel aside, Cameron also played Amber Von Tussle in NBC’s 2016 production of Hairspray Live!.
Fans of the original film shouldn’t be too worried about the upcoming musical straying too far from the source material. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film is also writing the script for Clueless, The Musical.
As for the music, the upcoming production will use popular songs from the ’90s to move the story along.
Clueless, The Musical is slated to run from November through December of 2018.
