The iconic Amy Heckerling teen comedy Clueless will be rolling back into theaters in May to celebrate 25 years since it was first released.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Fathom Events and Paramount Pictures will be teaming up to show the film on May 3, May 4, and May 6 at approximately 700 theaters across the United States.
In conjunction with the special theatrical run of the movie, there will also be a special pre-show presentation dissecting the film’s memorable slang.
Originally premiering on July 19, 1995, Clueless was an updated adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma that followed Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz. The film updated Austen’s setting from Regency Era England to the glitzy, glamorous Beverly Hills.
Just as in the classic Austen novel, Cher is beautiful and rich, in charge of everything and everyone around her. When Brittany Murphy’s Tai — a plain-looking transplant from Los Angeles — moves to the neighborhood, Cher makes her a special project, giving her a makeover and showing her just which boys in their class are worth pursuing.
Over the course of the film, Cher schemes and plays matchmaker with the people around her, but her penchant for (mostly good-natured) manipulation comes back to bite her. She must learn not only to stay out of other people’s lives but to look inward and improve herself.
In addition to Alicia Silverstone and Brittany Murphy, Clueless stars Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Wallace Shawn, Paul Rudd, Breckin Meyer, and Jeremy Sisto.
The movie made back about 3.5 times its cost, making $56.6 million on a $12 million budget. However, since its 1995 release, it’s gone on to achieve cult movie status and is broadly regarded as one of the best teen movies ever created.
Clueless will be shown at participating theaters nationwide on May 3, May 4, and May 5. Be sure to check out the Fathom Events website to see if there are any showings near you and to pre-order your tickets!
