While promoting Magic Mike XXL, Channing Tatum has been more open about his career than most Hollywood stars would ever dare to be.
Whatever you think about Channing Tatum’s abs, acting chops, dancing talents, etc, one thing is absolutely certain: the man is fearless.
Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the surprisingly popular 2012 movie starring Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer (neither of whom will be back for XXL), hits cinemas on July 1. The stars have therefore dutifully been making the media rounds to promote their new movie.
But either Channing Tatum isn’t locked down by some big studio aiming to keep him on his best behavior, or he simply doesn’t care.
In a revealing Reddit AMA last week, Tatum not only deemed his own acting in Step Up to be “bad,” but also offered a hint about his feelings towards the bizarre (yet beloved) Jupiter Ascending.
When a fan asked, “Jupiter Ascending? What was that?” Tatum frankly replied, “Great question. I have the same one to myself.”
Then came an amazing radio interview with Howard Stern, during which a number of hard truths were dropped.
On his 2009 movie G. I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Tatum dissed the script, and said, “Look, I’ll be honest. I f**king hate that movie. I was pushed into doing that movie.”
Stern and Tatum also touched on Ghostbusters — no, not that one, the all-male version which will allegedly be directed by the Russo Brothers.
“That thing’s gotten messy,” Tatum said, referring to the multiple remakes in development. “I gotta be honest, there’s a lot of people doing a lot of things on Ghostbusters. There’s a lot of people in the Ghostbusters pool.”
According to Tatum, the project is currently in the “gestation period,” which makes sense, considering that the Russos are currently working on Captain America: Civil War, and are also signed on for both installments of Avengers: Infinity War. We’ll have to see what comes of this one.
