The cardboard Nintendo Switch is completely functional, and has an entire outer shell made out of paper.
The cardboard Nintendo Switch was given out as a prize for a Nintendo Labo creativity contest.
The console still has all of the electronic parts inside, and seems to have a glued-on “skin” of cardboard all around it. However, what it really feels like, we’ll never know, as Nintendo has only publicly displayed it behind a glass casing at PAX West.

Some close-up images show how things like the joysticks, ABYX buttons, and directional pad buttons all stick out of the cardboard casing. The sides of the joy cons are completely uncovered, as are the shoulder buttons and kickstand. It looks a bit odd to see the Switch’s touchscreen inlaid within the cardboard skin.
Also, I can only imagine that this thing would overheat in a heartbeat. Here’s hoping that the winner of the Labo contest kept it in their own display case as opposed to trying to play it.
Some finer details of the cardboard Nintendo Switch are the little ridges on the edges to replicate the Labo line, along with a nice looking Nintendo Labo logo on the back.
If you’re looking to get your hands on this console, good luck. If there are some prototypes floating around out there, as sometimes does happen on eBay, then they will likely be very, very expensive to secondhand purchase.
Maybe try to find out who won the contest and ask them nicely if you can have a look at it?
