Look forward to new episodes of Charlie Brooker’s sharp anthology series Black Mirror in October, when Netflix debuts a brand new season!
Black Mirror, one of the sharpest TV dramas in recent years, aired its first three-episode season on Channel 4 in 2011. Season 2 followed in 2013, with a Christmas special rounding out the show in 2014.
Each episode serves as a standalone narrative with its own individual cast (one of our favorite episodes, “Be Right Back,” starred Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson), presenting various dystopian, technology-dominated futures. There didn’t necessarily need to be more than seven episodes, but we were nonetheless delighted when Netflix booked the series for another round of social and political commentary.
Now, we’ve got the exact premiere date for Black Mirror season 3: Via Variety, the six-episode season will debut at midnight on October 21.
This came as part of Netflix’ bundle announcement of its original fall series. As reported yesterday, the new season of Gilmore Girls is coming November 25, with all four episodes dropping at once.
Black Mirror season 3 is helmed by original creator Charlie Brooker, and boasts a fantastic ensemble cast and writers. It was revealed yesterday that Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) has written an episode about video games, while Rashida Jones and Michael Schur (Parks and Recreation) have co-written another.
Brooker says of Jones and Schur’s episode, “It turned out they were fans of the show, and the feelings were mutual. It was a social satire about identity in the social media age. That’s about the most boring way I could describe it.” That episode will star Bryce Dallas Howard, and is directed by Joe Wright.
The other half of Black Mirror‘s executive producer team, Annabel Jones, says of the new season, “We’re trying to dramatize very contemporary concerns — in our current climate and with the technological advancements, we’re in a place that feels very alien. We’re evolving as a species and we don’t really know how yet.”
Is it October 21 yet?!
