Now that we’ve shown you who we thought had a big year in 2013, it’s time to show off the wonderful actors and musicians that we think you should keep an eye on for the year of 2014.
These people strutted their stuff this year and while some of them have been known for a while and/or already had a somewhat successful career, we think that next year will really be their time to shine. They’ve already shown us that they have what it takes to make it to the big leagues, now let’s see if they can wow us in 2014.
If there’s someone not on this list who you think would be worth following be sure to tell us in the comments below!
Peter Capaldi
This one is simple: Being the 12th Doctor is bound to up your career! Capaldi will make his debut this Christmas but when Doctor Who series 8 airs in August he’ll be the talk of the town.
Okay, yeah, we know he’s already the talk of the town now, but all eyes are going to be on Capaldi next year to see what he’ll bring to the role. No one knows what kind of Doctor Capaldi will be, and fans currently attached to Smith will have a tough time adjusting, but the entire fandom is excited to see what he’ll be able to do. We’re sure that we’ll grow to love Capaldi as the 12th Doctor as much as we grew to love Matt when David Tennant left – it’s only a matter of time. –Tariq Kyle
Jena Malone
We might be all about Jennifer Lawrence, but there is no doubt that the breakout star of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was Jena Malone. Malone was unforgettable as District 7 tribute Johanna Mason, and we can’t wait to see her again in Mockingjay. We also can’t wait for her to do another round of press interviews, because she is very J. Law in her approach (by which we mean, lots of talking about food).
2014 will also see Malone starring in Inherent Vice alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin, and in psychological thriller Angelica. Malone is one of those actors that has been around forever, and if you check her IMDb you will see that she has played supporting roles in so many huge films. We are looking forward to The Hunger Games catapulting Malone right into the spotlight where she clearly belongs. –Marama Whyte
Grant Gustin
Grant Gustin started getting our attention when he guest starred on Glee, and it seems that his career has skyrocketed in a flash. …okay, pun intended and we admit it was terrible.
Gustin appeared as the Flash in the CW series Arrow just a few weeks ago, and executives felt so confident in his performance that they’ve given him his own series. If the pilot does well then we can easily see Gustin’s career rise in 2014. Plus, there’s also the fact that Warner Bros. has slated a Flash film for 2016. Gustin could take the role, but time will tell. –Tariq Kyle
Ansel Elgort
Ansel Elgort started to get our attention when he was cast in the remake of Carrie which premiered earlier this year, and then again when he was cast in Divergent as Caleb, Tris’ brother. And then there’s also the fact that he was cast in The Fault in Our Stars as Augustus Waters. That’s a lot in one year!
Elgort was cast in two gigantic young adult movie adaptations that are bound to boost his spotlight. Since both Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars premiere in 2014 we see Elgort getting a lot of well deserved attention. After TFIOS is over, though, we’ll have plenty more time to ogle over him as he’ll still have two more movies to film as Caleb for Divergent. It’s easy to see where this guy is going, and it’s all up hill! –Tariq Kyle
Lorde
Lorde made her musical debut earlier this year, and at only 17 it’s clear to see that this talented young woman has a huge career ahead of her.
Let’s ignore the fact that Lorde got upstaged by Beyonce this month with her recent single release, and focus on the fact that she’s nominated for four Grammys! That, in addition to the fact that she had a fantastic song on the Catching Fire soundtrack points us to the conclusion that 2014 will not be a dull year for her. We can’t wait to see what this young artist has up her sleeve! –Tariq Kyle
