With most fall shows wrapping up for winter break, we’re looking back at the first half of their seasons and taking your votes on Hypable’s inaugural Show of the Month.

But what is Show of the Month? It’s where we nominate our favorite shows — whether we’re officially covering it or not — and put it to you, the Hypable audience, to vote on which one you think is hitting all the right notes.

The winning Show of the Month will be featured on our social media channels, and across the Hypable website in special ways. We want readers to know that one show rules them all.

The show has to currently be airing or recently wrapped for it to be eligible for the competition. Otherwise, it’s anyone’s game! It doesn’t matter whether it’s a Netflix original, airing on a network, or a cable show. We want to give credit where credit is due, and celebrate the best of the best of television.

Just make sure you leave a comment, telling us why you cast your vote for your chosen show. You never know, your comment could be featured in a future article, if that show takes the crown!

Don’t worry if you can’t spot your favorite show on the list — rally your fellow fans and let us know why that show should win in the comments. We’ll tally those votes up manually.

And so, without further ado, here are some of the Hypable staff’s nominations and cases for Show of the Month.

Note: The inaugural Show of the Month will feature some Netflix originals that premiered back in August — but within the fall television season. Future Netflix originals will only be eligible in the month following their premiere. This allows for the series to be watched in full, before voting.

Hypable’s Show of the Month nominations

‘Lucifer’ — FOX

Lucifer is a show that certainly took me by surprise. I saw the pilot back at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 and, though it differed greatly from its source material, there was just something about it that instantly caught my attention and it never quite let me go.

Flash forward to a year later, and the show is enjoying its recently extended second season. It just wrapped up with a pretty huge reveal regarding Chloe Decker, and left off on a cliffhanger that will have me screaming into my pillow until it comes back. You know what I’m talking about, #Lucifans.

It’s at turns touching, hilarious, and profound — and for a show so deeply rooted in faith, it never (pardon the pun) preaches at you about what you should believe. Nor that there’s a right answer. It’s one of the shows that I find myself anticipating week after week for its nuanced and rich characters, witty writing, and the stellar acting from the entire cast. — Donya Abramo

‘No Tomorrow’ — CW

I’ve written about this before but No Tomorrow is one of the best shows on TV right now.

Sure, it has the look of a fluff piece, but it’s so much more than that. There are PoC integrated into the main cast, one of which is an Indian woman who not only lacks the stereotypical Indian accent but who is also openly pansexual.

Plus, the show is about being who you are and embracing life. It’s wonderfully entertaining and heartfelt. The travesty, however, is that the show has pretty much been cancelled at this point. So, I’m nominating it for Hypable’s Show of the Month in the hopes that it gets some well-deserved recognition before disappearing from television. — Danielle Zimmerman

‘Once Upon a Time’ — ABC

Once Upon a Time historically performs in peaks and valleys. After the deep, deep valley season 5 left viewers in, season 6 begins the climb to back to a peak.

The month of December sent Once Upon a Time back to the peak of season 1. Each week Lana Parrilla delivers knockout performances as the Evil Queen and Regina Mills. The show is also doing great work playing into the ongoing theme of separating oneself from a perceived identity.

Rather than focus on a visiting character or land, season 6 sets up the opportunity for the show to stay on message for 22 episodes instead of 13. The winter finale, “What You Wish For,” is certainly the strongest episode of the season and will entice fans who gave up on the show to go back and prepare for 2017! — Brittany Lovely

‘Pitch’ — FOX

Pitch finished its freshman season after 10 episodes and the season-ending cliffhanger left us desperate for its renewal.

Not only is the show groundbreaking in its story about the first woman to play in the majors (and it’s collaboration with MLB to give it authenticity), it explores her personal highs and lows that come with it. The show has touched on relevant topics like celebrity nudes and rape culture and handled them expertly. And the core dynamic between Ginny, the hot shot newbie pitcher, and Mike, her grizzled veteran catcher, developed so naturally from adversarial to mentor/mentee to equals.

Pitch is a show that has such strong characters that even those who don’t follow baseball should give it a chance and propel it into a second season. — Caitlin Kelly

‘Sweet/Vicious’ — MTV

Sweet/Vicious came out swinging when it premiered in November, and although we’ve only seen four episodes of the series so far, they’ve packed a major punch.

In a world dominated by headlines pointing out (or feeding into) the injustices of the world, Sweet/Vicious has been a unique and strong voice that aims to fight against the wrongs of the world. — Karen Rought

‘This Is Us’ — NBC

This Is Us might have appeared to be just another version of Parenthood but now halfway in it’s clear that it’s so much more. Every week it brings us an emotional rollercoaster that is not only incredibly entertaining but also realistic and down to earth.

It’s so easy to relate and identify with these characters that it’s no wonder This Is Us has both critics and fans raving about it. — Tariq Kyle

‘The Walking Dead’ — AMC

The Walking Dead kicked off its latest season by breaking fans hearts everywhere. At the same time, they also introduced a villain that is sure to go down in television history as simultaneously being the most loved and hated. With a new villain, has also come new allies as the world of The Walking Dead continues to grow.

There’s no debate that the show has continually pulled fans in with fantastic storylines, unexpected twists, and the overwhelming need to ensure our favorite characters continue to survive the brutal world of walkers. — Sonya Field
