With the live-action Beauty and the Beast hitting theaters in a matter of hours, we got to wondering: Is the original Beauty and the Beast the best Disney animated movie of all time? If not, what is?

Sure, Beauty and the Beast was an Oscar-winning filmmaking triumph (and not just because it was the first full-length animated feature to be nominated for Best Film). Critics and families alike couldn’t stop raving about it. We may even have the biggest Beauty and the Beast superfan on our staff here at Hypable.

But what about other Disney animated movies? The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Peter Pan (just to name a few) are many times considered as popular as Beauty and the Beast, if not sometimes moreso. (I happen to be a Little Mermaid superfan myself. Just sayin’.)

So how do we decide which is the best Disney animated movie that has ever been made? Easy. By doing what we always do when we try to decide these things: Creating a list and asking you, our faithful readers (and your friends *hint hint*), to rank them.

To vote for the best Disney movie, simply hit the “up” arrow next to the photo of the movie! Not a fan of some of the ones on our list? Just ignore them. Want to make sure your favorite movie gets more votes than the others? Call on your friends for help!

To keep this endeavor manageable, all of the movies on this list were made either by Walt Disney Animation Studios or Pixar Animation Studios. The two exceptions to that rule are The Nightmare Before Christmas and A Goofy Movie because we sensed that people might riot if those Disney animated movies weren’t included. While we’d love to feature every animated film that was ever touched by Disney, the list of movies to rank would be far too long and then nobody would ever be able to finish it. We hope you understand.
