Benedict Cumberbatch is heading back to the small screen for his next starring role.
TV Line reports that actor Benedict Cumberbatch has officially signed on to star in the upcoming limited series, The 39 Steps.
The 39 Steps is based off of author John Buchan’s book of the same name. Buchan’s novel was later adapted for the big screen in 1935 by famed director Alfred Hitchcock in a film that starred Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll.
The limited series Cumberbatch will star in is being described as an “action-packed conspiracy thriller” that serves as an updated adaptation of the original story.
The 39 Steps is set to follow an ordinary man named Richard Hannay who accidentally finds himself getting entangled in a far-reaching global conspiracy whose mission is to reset the world order in 39 steps. Hannay, however, might just be the only one standing in the way of ensuring the steps in question are met.
