Everyone has been curious as to how Batman would stand a chance against Superman in a fight, and now Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder explains a fight scene which shows how Batman could have the upper hand in the film.
Director Zack Snyder has finally given us an explanation for how Batman will fight Superman in his upcoming film Dawn of Justice. It’s a pretty incredible fight sequence, and while it may spoil the fight in the film, it’s really interesting to see what he has to say about the Batman character he’s created.
While speaking to EW, Snyder said, “Superman doesn’t have to be as much of a chess player as Batman.” Superman has might on his side, but before the fists start flying, we see an armored Batman placing various traps in an abandoned stockyard, then walking along and driving a Kryptonite spear into the ground. “He paces it off,” Snyder says. “Then when he throws Superman, the spear is right there. So you’re like, wait a minute, did he [plan] every bit? He know every move?”
This is possibly one of the coolest superhero fight scenes I’ve ever heard explained. Everyone has been curious as to how Batman would have even a remote chance at fighting Superman, and we knew his mechanical suit would play a part, but it still seems impossible for him to battle the Man of Steel.
Having Batman, played by Ben Affleck, be insanely intelligent and basically play chess with Superman and think 10 moves ahead is a really interesting way for an older Batman to fight an enemy which he knows has him out-gunned.
While it was almost a given that kryptonite would be used in some way, having Batman place the kryptonite spear in a specific location, and making sure that Superman ends up landing near the spear during a fight, he can basically make Superman weaker during his entire fight. That’s insanely cool for some reason, and really goes to show that this is not a brute-Batman, he’s highly intelligent and despite the difference in strength, Batman may actually have the upper hand in this situation.
Picking Ben Affleck to play this type of Batman was a great choice, now that we know more about how Batman will fight Superman, and seeing this different style of critical-thinking fight sequences sounds exciting and different than anything we’ve seen from superhero movies in the last few years.
Iron Man seems to do some intelligent fighting sometimes, but Batman seems like he’ll be on a whole other level in this film when he faces off against Henry Cavill’s Superman. Like Snyder said, Superman may have the power, but Bruce Wayne has the brain power.
It was recently revealed that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will have an R-rated cut released on the film’s Blu-ray, and the film will officially hit theaters in the U.S. on March 25, 2016.
Tickets for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are officially available for purchase, so be sure to pick up your advanced tickets. Early reports suggest the film looks to take in $300+ million worldwide during its opening weekend.
