A Bad Boys spinoff starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union is officially being turned into a television show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the new series, titled L.A.’s Finest, has been picked up by Charter Communications where it will serve as the production company’s first scripted series.
The show follows Bad Boys II character Syd Burnett (Gabrielle Union), whose last big screen mission involved taking down the drug cartel in Miami, as she sets off on a fresh start to become a detective with the LAPD. Once there, she finds herself paired with a new partner named Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba)— a working mom with a complicated past to rival Syd’s. Together, they’ll be tasked with going head-to-head with the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles in an effort to take them down.
L.A.’s Finest, which is also being produced by Sony Pictures Television, is set to premiere via Spectrum’s new online streaming platform.
The series, which was originally developed and then passed on by NBC, has been given a straight to series order of 13 episodes for its inaugural season.
Charter has recruited Pam Veasley to serve as executive producer and co-showrunner on the series. She’ll be working alongside previously announced co-creators and co-showrunners Brandom Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.
The new series is set to premiere via Spectrum’s online streaming platform sometime in 2019.
