The Suicide Squad is coming to Arrow, and now we have our first look at the government-sanctioned team of villains.
After being set up through the second season, it was recently revealed that Arrow season 2, episode 16 would be titled “Suicide Squad.”
Here is our first look at the titular squad of villains offered the chance to run government-sanctioned black ops missions in exchange for reduced prison sentences, thanks to Comic Book Resources:
The Suicide Squad is led by A.R.G.U.S. Director Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). Her team is comprised of Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White), Shrapnel (Sean Maher), and Deadshot (Michael Rowe).
But interestingly, we have another shot of the Suicide Squad that includes a couple of other familiar faces:
Far right, we see none other than John Diggle (David Ramsey) and his ex-wife Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson).
“Dig was our way into Amanda Waller, and in this episode, Amanda comes to Dig and Lyla, and she recruits Dig for a mission, and tells him he’s going to need a team — and she saddles him with the Suicide Squad,” Arrow EP Andrew Kreisberg said of the Diggle-centric episode 16.
The episode will also feature flashbacks to Diggle’s time in Afghanistan with then-friend Ted Gaynor, Diggle’s commanding officer-turned-present-day-villain. According to EP Marc Guggengeim, “Again, we’re going back to the idea that things are laid in one season and paid off in another.
“In episode 14 of last year, Diggle told Felicity this story about how he saved the life of this warlord, a guy named Golam Kadir. Well, in episode 16, the flashbacks will be told from Diggle’s perspective in Afghanistan, saving the life of Golam Kadir.”
Arrow season 2, episode 16 “Suicide Squad” airs Wednesday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
