In an article covering J.K. Rowling’s adult novel announcement, the Associated Press spoke to Scholastic Bloomsbury who revealed their intention to publish illustrated versions of the Harry Potter books in the UK.

UPDATE: Our report incorrectly stated that Scholastic is the publisher behind illustrated Potter re-releases. It’s actually Bloomsbury in the United Kingdom who will be releasing these. There are no plans for these illustrated books in the United States.

Interestingly, the below quote has been removed from the source article (the original still exists here) suggesting that Bloomsbury wasn’t actually ready to make the announcement yet:

“We are pleased to announce that as part of our long term strategy for Harry Potter we intend to publish illustrated editions of all seven Harry Potter books in a rolling program from 2013 onwards in addition to our partnership on e-books with the Pottermore website,” the publisher said in a statement.

Do you think illustrated Harry Potter books are a good step forward?

Another question is how detailed, plot wise, these illustrated books will be.

Somewhat related: You may remember that several years ago Scholastic tried to re-release each of the books as Anniversary Editions with new covers, but they ended up changing their mind and didn’t get further than the first book (pictured below).
